D.C. murder rate on pace to be lowest since the 1960s

Perhaps it was the heat that caused people to refrain from killing each other, but hey, whatever works. The D.C. murder rate for 2011 is on track to be 108 — significantly lower than last year's 132, and almost as low as in 1963, when the rate was below 100. Police attribute the continuing downward trend to better technology and a focus on people suspected to be gang members, instead of a geographic focus. Let's hope we didn't just jinx it.
