Massachusetts abortion fund to match donations to pay for D.C. abortions
At midnight last night, Medicaid coverage for elective abortions in D.C. abruptly ended, leaving 28 women with Medicaid-funded abortions scheduled for today unsure how they would pay for the procedures out of pocket. When the news hit, DC Abortion Fund President Tiffany Reed says that donations began pouring in "from all over the country" to help cover the Medicaid gap. Now, Massachusetts' own abortion fund is helping to bail out D.C.: An anonymous donor to the Eastern Massachusetts Abortion Fund has agreed to match all donations to the Cambridge-based EMA Fund with an equal donation to the DC Abortion Fund. The donor will match funds through today and tomorrow. EMA Fund volunteer Gretchen Sisson says that the fund has already raised $2,460 today, sending an additional $2,460 D.C.'s way.
