A D.C. native has big plans for a small downtown movie theater that closed seven years ago. The West End Cinema opens this week at 23rd and M streets, in the space that once housed the West End 5, 6, and 7 -- a theater used as extra screens for the a long-gone theater across the street.

The new owners believe their small theater can offer a big alternative.
