Arch on 'Conan the Barbarian,' 'Fright Night,' and more
Conan the Barbarian
A 3-D remake of the campy Arnold Schwarzenegger film — movie hunk Jason Momoa vamps through this parade of blood, battle and babes with dialog in words of one syllable or less. 1 star

Arch on 'The Help,' 'Glee 3D' and '30 Minutes or Less'
The Help
Fans of the book will love the movie thanks to great acting and a wonderful cast. Emma Stone plays the young writer who comes home to Jackson, Miss. with the idea of interviewing black maids who clean house, cook, and raise children for wealthy white families. Set in pre–civil rights 1963, the story has the ring of truth and begins with a statement by Viola Davis about the ache of raising other people's children at the expense of her own. The Help relives a painful chapter of Southern history but never gets preachy. It also features a breakout role for actress Octavia Spencer as the feisty maid Minny who gets her revenge on an unfair employer in a most personal manner. The Help assembles a great cast including Sissy Spacek, Alison Janney, and Dallas Bryce Howard. I think it could turn into an award contender and a bright spot on the mostly-comic-book summer movie scene. 4 stars
After the jump: reviews of Glee 3D and 30 Minutes or Less.

Arch Campbell reviews 'The Change Up' and 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes'
The Change Up
Freaky Friday with an "R" rating. Ryan Reynolds, a randy bachelor actor, changes lives with Jason Bateman, a hard-working happily married lawyer with three healthy children. The change comes when the boys piss in a magic fountain. Yes, that's the level of humor. The language will make many cringe and might even change the way you talk in the future. The Change Up also has a lot of nudity, none of it erotic but most of it disgusting. They work in plenty of toilet jokes, too, and even a baby poop-in-the face moment. The Hangover proved that R-rated comedy can soar. The Change Up is no Hangover. 2 stars
Rise of the Planet of the Apes
James Franco plays a scientist searching for a cure for Alzheimer's. He tests it on a baby chimp, and you can guess the rest. The chimp starts to wise up. As an actor, Franko makes a really good scientist. He adds hopefulness as a guy searching for a way to improve the world. He also gets across his love for the animal he tests. Meanwhile, Andy Serkis plays the chimp we come to know as Caesar. He's fascinating to watch and he displays a chimp's growing intelligence. Thanks to a mishap, Caesar winds up in a less-than-pristine animal shelter, where he learns to both fight and reason his way to the top. When he leads his fellow innamtes to freedom, it's silly, yes, but also kind of thrilling. The result's a lot of fun to watch. 2½ stars
