Last night, news came out that Nationals outfielder Nyjer Morgan had been suspended seven games for hurling a baseball into the stands at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, striking a fan after "an ongoing dialogue" ended badly.
Morgan is appealing the suspension but this is not the first time he's been involved in some unpleasantness with fans.
Via the SeatGeek blog, it seems like Morgan is not too keen on opposing fans heckling him.
At a Nationals-Mets game in May, it seems that some of the Citi Field faithful were asking Morgan to throw them the ball he was using for warm-ups prior to the bottom of the 8th. Morgan instead did a fake-out similar to what we see here.
Then, this brilliant repartee:
"A fan screamed out during one of the pitching changes, 'Hey Morgan, show us your slap shot.' He proceeded to pretend to skate and shoot slap shots in the vast Citi Field outfield."
Not bad. Maybe Morgan can catch on with the Islanders if this baseball rigamarole doesn't work out.
But then things just got wrong in the bottom of the 9th.
"We continued to scream at him as he warmed up, 'Throw us the ball Morgan'. Well in response to our pleas, Morgan thought it would be funny to show us the ball in his glove and then grab the family jewels."
Now, we at TBD oppose crotch-grabbing as a gesture of greeting, and Morgan's actions were inappropriate, strictly speaking. But I mean, come on, the fans are asking him for a ball a few minutes after telling him he sucks. I can't exactly kill the guy for this.
