Live from Baltimore: Maryland vs. Navy- 1st Quarter
Overview-Maryland made their size advantage up front tell, as they drove the ball down the field for touchdowns in their only two offensive possessions of the quarter. Jamarr Robinson still has yet to attempt as pass, while Davin Meggett is the star man, with 4 carries for 75 yards and a touchdown. The score after 1 quarter is Maryland 14, Navy 0.
AS IT HAPPENED
Maryland received the opening kickoff and immediately went on the march, going 58 yards over 8 plays in 4:27. The drive was capped off by a 5-yard run from Da'rel Scott who took a pitch from QB Jamarr Robinson and danced untouched into the end zone. Travis Baltz addded the PAT to make it 7-0 Maryland.
Navy came right back down the field, as their misdirection triple option bamboozled the Terrapins all the way into the red zone. However, the Maryland defense stiffened, and a third down sack of Dobbs by Joe Vellano forced Navy into a 32-yard field goal try, which hit the left upright and bounced harmlessly away. With 7:03 left in the first quarter, the score remained 7-0 Maryland.
On the first play after the missed field goal, Davin Meggett scampered for 67 yards down to the Navy 13. A pass interference call against Navy on third down gave Maryland a first-and-goal at the four-yard-line, and Maryland did not refuse the gift. Two plays after the penalty, Davin Meggett took it in from three yards out. Baltz added the extras to make it 14-0 Maryland with 4:15 left in the first. The drive covered 80 yards in five plays and 2:48.
The quarter ended with Navy in possession at the Maryland 24 yard-line, facing first-and-10.
