UPDATE 6:10 P.M. Buster Olney of ESPN is reporting that a decision on Morgan's punishment is likely to come Friday.
Meanwhile, USA Today asks if Morgan's hockey background the reason for his temper?
UPDATE 12:30 P.M.- Adam Kilgore reports that MLB is reviewing last night's brawl and will treat the brawl and Morgan's Philadelphia incident separately. Suspensions are expected to come down either today or tomorrow.
UPDATE 11:30 A.M.- Estimable Washington Post baseball writer Tom Boswell has weighed in:
"The 20th best player on a team can't make himself the center of everything every day for more than a week," Boswell says. "[I]f Nyjer starts another fight, let him finish it alone."
UPDATE 10:30 A.M.- You knew it was just a matter of time before the recently departed Rob Dibble weighed in, right? Cal Ripken also gave his thoughts (scroll down to the end of Steinberg's post).
UPDATE 10:22 A.M.- We're debating whether or not Morgan is worth remaining in the Nats' long-term plans at The Scrum.
UPDATE 10:10 A.M.- Craig Calcaterra at Hardball Talk calls out the Marlins for their role in the insanity. Federal Baseball has a look at Nyjer Morgan's decision-making.
UPDATE 10:00 A.M.- Steven over at Fire Jim Bowden has also had enough of Nyjer. Ben Goessling of MASN has video of Morgan's postgame remarks. Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated has joined the crowd calling for Morgan's suspension. Nationals Enquirer's message is simple: "Fire Nyjer Morgan."
UPDATE 9:30 A.M. -There has been no word yet on possible punishment for Morgan (who is already appealing his seven-game suspension for this incident), but reaction is rolling in across the web. Adam Kilgore called Morgan's WWE-style exit from the field "an embarrassment". Mark Zuckerman called it "a sad and predictable turn of events. William Yurasko says "[Morgan's] instability is hurting himself and the team," and calls for Morgan to be benched, adding "I don't think I have a problem with Morgan never playing for the Nationals again."
Also, Mike Diamond from Bleacher Report wants Morgan suspended for the rest of the season. Big League Stew compares Morgan to Tanner Boyle from Bad News Bears and says he needs the break the inevitable suspension will bring.
Condemnation is not universal, however. Rachel over at Nationals Fangirls doesn't blame Morgan for charging the mound after he'd already been hit.
ORIGINAL POST
I've written a lot about Nyjer Morgan's various on and off-field antics over the last week or so, and usually brought my personal opinion into it. Here, however, I think I'm just going to let the pictures speak for themselves.
In the sixth inning of last night's 16-10 loss to the Florida Marlins, Morgan, who'd already been hit once in the fourth inning (in retaliation for this play the previous night), and stolen second and third afterwards (the Nats were trailing 14-3 at the time), saw a pitch from Chris Volstad go whizzing by his backside. After that, Morgan decided, in essence, that it was Hammer Time, telling the press after the game, " [You throw at me] once, it's good enough. Twice, it's time to go."
And go he did. And now, let's go to the videotape. And please, put your thoughts in the comments below.

noodlez . . .
the nats are a last place team and has been since they moved here. with the season over im glad to see that someone on the team hasnt mailed it in yet. morgan albeit sometimes out of control is still playing the game hard and as a fan that is what we want to see. Ethan Wechtaluk he did not get his ass whooped! your ignorant statement is typical of some fake ass sports fan who thinks they know all things sports cause they watch espn and play fantasy games. step yo game up fool! Go Nationals finish on a strong note the real fans got your back.
Ethan W.
haha that is far from ignorant and you don't know me, so don't throw out labels when they absolutely do not apply. i am not and never will be a nats fan. they are a horribly managed organization who will never achieve success unless they completely overhaul the front office and the coaching staff. morgan is an awful example of what people think the sport of baseball should be, and its not a sideshow freak attraction filled with fighting. he doesn't play the game the way it should be played, hence the reason no other teams wants him. the guy stole second and third when the team was down 11 runs. that is just absolutely idiotic. and unless you are watching a different fight than i am, he got clotheslined. when does that not count as getting your ass whooped?
