Social Safeway nabs the city’s first green grocery store certification

The Georgetown Safeway is slated to receive a green status from the U.S. Green Building Council Friday, making it D.C.’s first grocery store to hold the rank, Georgetown Patch reports. The store features LED lights, low-flow water fixtures, composting, and a special roof that helps keep the building cool. There’s also a honey bar, which had no bearing on the store’s green status, but is still fun.
