Whole Foods stores around the region go wild for cherries

In honor of selling organic cherries for $2.99 a pound today, Whole Foods has declared the day to be some sort of cherry festival. Local Whole Foods stores respond with a flurry of social-media activity, games, and samples, some more enticing then others. A roundup:

Serving them up with ice cream and chocolate sauce; posing for odd photos!

Sampling scallops with cherry tarragon, chicken kabobs with cherry maple glaze, AND cherry lemonade!

Cherry-pit spitting contest! 2-6 pm! $100 of Whole Foods gift cards on the line!

Falls Church/Tysons
Serving plain old cherries! Weak!

Making cherry salsa on the store floor! 4-7 pm!

Posting lots of recipes on Facebook! And unspecified sampling.
