Baker-Jackson debate generates sparks as Pr. George’s candidates clash repeatedly
Rushern Baker and Sheriff Michael Jackson clashed repeatedly on a wide range of issues during a one-on-one debate broadcast live on TBD’s “NewsTalk” Tuesday morning.
The hour-long debate – the only encounter pitting the perceived front-runners in the race for Prince George’s Executive – focused on controversies involving the Sheriff’s office, Baker’s stewardship of a non-profit, the decision to strip the county’s elected school board of its power, and whether furloughs are a legitimate budget tool during times of budgetary crisis.
Unlike past debates in which the candidates were reluctant to face or address one another, Baker and Jackson went at it in a no-holds-barred fashion.

Lastly, the two battle over whether employee furloughs are a legitimate tool for a future Executive to use to close a budget shortfall.
We invite you to check out the NewsTalk replay at 4pm and 6pm today. Toward the top of the show you’ll hear the two men debate whether Baker’s acceptance of funds from a prominent developer run counter to his claim of wanting to reform county government.
