OMIGOD have you heard that Taylor Swift is pregnant...in her new video? T. Swift released the video for "Mine" on Friday, and I would mention this even if I weren't contractually obligated to report on all things Taylor Swift. Am I the only one who finds it super creepy seeing young Tay-Tay with child? Anyone?
Speaking of music videos, another Fenty campaign music video dropped on Friday, this time for the Stinky Dink/Big G/Junkyard collabo "Fenty Win 2010," which is set to the beat of DJ Khaled's "All I Do Is Win." Unlike the "Don't Leave Us Fenty" vid, this one is less staged and mostly captures a live performance. And it's so good to see Stinky Dink, whose signature hit "One Track Mind" is twenty years old, but still a classic around these parts.
Speaking of rappers who have been around for a long time, Nas and Damian performed at the 9:30 club last night, to promote their album Distant Relatives.
According to the reviews on Twitter, the show was quite good.
@pfunk_allstar tweets that they "killed it."
@thuyanj1 writes that the show was "[s]o good!"
BUT, not everyone is happy with Nas. The rapper was a surprise guest at D.C. Rock the Bells on Sunday, and he performed "If I Ruled the World" with Lauryn Hill and "Verbal Intercourse" with Raekwon and Ghostface (the latter moment was one of my favorites of the day). Apparently folks on the Left Coast are mad that Nas didn't pop up on their Rock the Bells date. Oh well!
And speaking of hip-hop, it's an epic day for DMV hip-hop with Black Cobain, Fat Trel, Kingpen Slim, Ra the MC, and others all promising to drop projects today. I'll be talking to some of the artists and providing links as they become available. Well, whaddya know, Ra the MC's project Heart of a Champion is already up at DJ Booth.
In case you missed it: Ryan Kearney explored whether film incentives are worth the public cost, oh and the folks who put together the "Don't Leave Us Fenty" music video appear to have watched as much '90s-era Rap City as I did (and I watched a lot of Rap City, let me tell you).
