TBD ARTS ROUNDUP LET'S GO!

We all know Friday's Arcade Fire show was trafficky (at least one TBD reporter missed Spoon, but he really didn't leave the office at a time that took into account: 1) stopping for dinner at Chipotle; 2) driving to Columbia, so I am not entirely sympathetic!). But obviously what everyone's wondering this morning is...

WHAT WERE PEOPLE TWEETING ABOUT THE BARENAKED LADIES SHOW LAST NIGHT?

@waxpraxis admired the band's projected Vonoroi diagram. Surprised I didn't see more on this. @anniejoshdc tried to relax and not think about their wedding while Canadians sang quickly about vanilla. @twodc was confused by how many people were there to see the opener. No word on the traffic situation yet.

Social media component satisfied! Let's move on!

Sunday Arts & Style! No matter which side of the ampersand you fall on, a lively presentation this week. Blake Gopnik gave local viz-arts joker Dan Steinhilber a showcase, Joe Heim talked with Rosanne Cash about how her dead parents won't read her book, and Ann Hornaday has salad with Robert Duvall (with cool iPad sketches by Patterson Clark). PLUS: Whitney Shefte writes admiringly of something that sounds like it would kill me like a vampire stumbling into a sunrise — more than a dozen people playing the blues simultaneously. And a story about a sewing machine bar in Paris, in case you're heading there, as well as one about Palestinian rap. Just guessing here, but you probably wanna avoid the comments section on this one.

Aggregation: DONE! On to...original reporting! The third leg of the three-legged stool. Last month I spoke with Terrence Jones, president and CEO of Wolf Trap. The thing that I was interested in was whether Wolf Trap's policy of keeping ticket prices low was moving it slowly away from natural Wolf Trap artists.

Jones gave some examples: Van Morrison and Leonard Cohen, both of whom have priced themselves out of Wolf Trap's range before (though from what I read about Morrison's DAR concert last year, maybe that's for the best).

But Jones said what differentiates his venue is the experience. For the fans, "That includes affordable tickets, free parking, the fact that you can bring your own drink and food in," he said. "So all of that and the fact that you can buy a ticket here with no service charge if you come to the office." For the performers, "What we hear from some artists" — he mentioned James Taylor and Jackson Browne — "it was an eye- opener the quality of the artistic experience for people to hear them and enjoy their art." Of course, James Taylor skipped Wolf Trap this summer to play Verizon Center with Carole King, but that was probably too big a show for the Filene Center. But Wilco played! I am still waiting for a call back, Wilco!

Still you gotta cede the pleasantness. Godfrey and I went to see Rain: A Tribute to the Beatles at Wolf Trap this summer, and while the boomer smugness was a bit thick, I might still be a full-time music writer if every concert was this comfortable and had such stellar sound. And had a fat John Lennon as well as a skinny John Lennon, but maybe that's another post. ANYWAY. Story's in progress, or maybe you could say TBD!

TODAY'S EVENTS:

Elvis! In person! Live! Tonight! Also you can meet an anteater keeper, see some country-tinged indie rock, or bone up on your Truffaut. Like everything else around here, our events database is kinda "under construction" (absolutely heroic work from Crew Chief Schweitzer on this, by the way). Let me know if you like the mix and what you'd like to see less of (I'm not listening to anyone who dislikes the critter events, though). You can submit events to events@tbd.com.

Gotta bounce! Keep in touch! Use lots of exclamation points and remember to put spaces around your em dashes! The latter comprises instructions for me but feel free to adopt them! TBD ARTS ROUNDUP BYE! BYE!
