Oprah, Paul McCartney among Kennedy Center honorees

One man wrote a song about all of us living in a yellow submarine, while the other famously sang, "We don't smoke marijuana in Muskogee / We don't take our trips on LSD / We don't burn our draft cards down on Main Street / We like livin' right, and bein' free." But that was more than 40 years ago. I'm sure Paul McCartney and Merle Haggard, when they share the stage at the Kennedy Center Honors in December, will find they have a lot more in common now than not.
And if they don't get along, at least they'll have three other people to talk to: controversial choreographer Bill T. Jones, Broadway musical composer Jerry Herman, and Oprah Winfrey, who's famous primarily for launching a magazine just so she could appear on its cover every month. The Dec. 28 ceremony will be broadcast on CBS, which, for me, means a night of fooling with an old pair of rabbit ears.
