My First Time, through Sunday at Flashpoint, presents the first sexual experiences of anonymous internet commenters who submitted their stories to the website MyFirstTime.com. But even though the four actors in the show describe in great detail the good, bad and awful sex of others, their own experiences don't have a place in the show. In fact, they had never even discussed it among themselves, until TBD facilitated a telling of first-time stories before Tuesday's show. Previously: Jameson Freeman, Victoria Reinsel. Next up: Nick Hanson.
Like his castmate Victoria Reinsel, Hanson agrees that it's hard to judge the anonymous commenters who submitted their stories for the show. But for him, it's harder not to, because he has a monologue from a character that invites it.
"Our scene four monologue is a dual," says Hanson of a scene with Jameson Freeman. "It's his angelic monologue posed against my rapist monologue. I find it amazing that someone would actually post a story about a rape that they actually perpetrated. I definitely passed judgment on him."
But playing such a vile character has been a welcome challenge for him.
"I do enjoy playing the rapist, even though I would look down on him in the scope of society," says Hanson. "It's so far from anything I would do in real life, but it's fun to get inside of that."
Nick's first time:
"I waited a while for my first time, in the grand scheme of things. I was 21. I guess that with all the stuff going on around me in college, it felt like a while … Mine's pretty simple. I was with my girlfriend of about a month or two, junior year of college. It was close to my birthday, and we had talked about it before. It was in her dormitory room, in her twin bed. Other than that, it was pretty simple. Nothing special."
