The year in Rick Ross

When he wasn't out promoting one of the best albums of 2010, Miami rapper Rick Ross was all over the DMV this year. Except when he was standing us up, of course.
Ross skipped out on two scheduled D.C. events early in the year—a show at Ibiza and a party sponsored by Möet & Chandon. And yet he still signed on for three performances during Howard Homecoming weekend in October. The move made many people (well, me) nervous. Would he miss all of his performances, effectively ruining the entire weekend?
There was no need to worry: Ross actually made all of his scheduled performances, including a not-so-secret show at Love, and a set at the free Yardfest concert, where I had the pleasure of standing directly beneath Ross and witnessing the majesty of his tummy up close.
While Ross was giving shows all over the city, a fake Rick Ross was spotted in the DMV, singing autographs, taking pictures, and rocking a red leather jacket that the real Ricky Rozay wouldn't be caught dead wearing.
And, finally, Ross made an impact in the region in 2010 by setting his sights on recruiting the DMV's most prominent rapper, Wale, for his Maybach Music Group imprint. If the singing actually happens, maybe Ross will be spending even more time in the area in 2011.
