Guggeinheim nominated for Directors Guild Award: Arts links

- Last Train Home: Finally getting the recognition it deserves.
The Directors Guild of America, one of the countless organizations that hands out movie awards this season, has named its five nominees for best documentary director of 2010. It should come as no surprise that D.C. native Davis Guggenheim made the cut for Waiting for "Superman"; he tells The Hollywood Reporter that he's "beyond excited," which I believe would be either "thrilled" or "elated." Some people think Exit Through the Gift Shop and The Tillman Story were snubbed, and that may be true, but I'm thrilled-elated to see Lixin Fan honored for Last Train Home, which didn't make the Oscar shortlist despite being the best documentary I saw in 2010. Maybe the Academy should give me a call next time they narrow down the list all willy-nilly.
