- Raheem DeVaughn in 'Strings Dream.'
Anwan "Big G" Glover of Backyard Band and The Wire, singer Raheem DeVaughn, and radio personalities Russ Parr and Deja Perez appear in Strings Dream, a short film about bullying that premieres this week.
The film follows aspiring classical musician Strings (played by Elijah Torres), who is being bullied at his DMV-area high school and considers suicide as a result. Written by Dreams Work, Inc. co-founders Glover and Daniel Bradley along with Johnita Glover, as part of the non-profit's "Don't Bully; B.U.L.L.Y" initiative, the project also tells the story of the bully who is making Strings' life miserable.
Strings Dream, which is being presented by United Way of the National Capital Area and Rev. Tony Lee's Community of Hope A.M.E. Church, screens this Friday at Community of Hope; several of the stars, including Glover and DeVaughn, will be at the premiere.
The event is free and open to the public, but RSVP is required; contact firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve seats.
