Rapper Common performed a spoken word piece about peace at the White House's "Evening of Poetry" last night. The Chicago MC's participation in the event drew the ire of conservatives earlier this week, after the Daily Caller published lyrics from a 2007 Common track that contained the line "burn a Bush." The Daily Caller and others media outlets interpreted the line as a call to violence against former president George W. Bush.
Although Common spent most of this week dealing with criticism from everyone from Sean Hannity to Sarah Palin, his performance last night focused on peace and love.
DC Fab has the full text of the poem for those who like to read along.
