Howard County police arrested 24 people at Saturday's Phish concert at Merriweather Post Pavilion. There are always a lot of people arrested at Phish shows, but, in general, D.C. area concerts are filled with law-abiding music fans. Take last summer's Virgin Free Fest at Merriweather: 40,000 people showed up, and only three were busted for smoking pot.

But, every once in a while, area concert-goers go nutso and local police are forced to round up a bunch of them and haul 'em off to jail.

A few concerts that have put up big arrest numbers in recent years:

August, 2004: Rockville's own O.A.R. gives a show at Wolf Trap, 46 people are busted for public intoxication or alcohol possession--most of them kids. The Washington Post's Paul Farhi's writes a Style piece on the night: "Wolf Trap's Double Bill: O.A.R. and the Police." Best headline ever.

May, 2002: The annual HFStival takes place over Memorial Day weekend at RFK Stadium, and more than 35 people are arrested, mostly for drugs.

May, 1992: During one crazy week at Merriweather Post Pavilion, 16 people were arrested on drug charges at Lynyrd Skynyrd and Jimmy Buffett concerts. Oh, those crazy Parrotheads.

August, 1991: 16 people are arrested at Merriweather in a parking lot drug bust. According to a Google search, this was either a Stevie Nicks concert or a Celine Dion concert. Let's go ahead and say it was a Steve Nicks show.

June, 1991: Nearly 100 Grateful Dead fans at an RFK Stadium show throw bottles at police, but only three people were arrested for the infraction. The Post reported that an additional 14 people were busted on drug charges in the first two hours of the show alone! Oh, those crazy Deadheads.
