'Beats, Rhymes & Life' finally comes to D.C. tomorrow
Forget Harry Potter: Tomorrow the critically acclaimed documentary Beats, Rhymes & Life, which tells the story of the seminal '90s hip-hop group A Tribe Called Quest, finally opens in area theaters. You can catch it at Landmark E Street Cinema and Loews Georgetown in D.C., and Loews Shirlington in Arlington, Va.
Directed by actor Michael Rappaport, the film is a history of the group and its members, Q-Tip, Phife, Ali Shaheed Muhammad and sometime D.C. resident Jarobi. The doc has been controversial — Q-Tip has blasted both the project and Rapaport saying the director honored none of the band's requests in making the film. Phife and Rapaport recently sat down with WPGC morning show host Big Tigger on his Direct Access video show to discuss the drama surrounding the doc.
