Tonight: Electronic creative festival FORWARD kicks-off

Forward Fest 2012

88DC presents FORWARD Fest 2012, a celebration of electronic creative culture, featuring a range of electronic music artists including Jeff Mills, Distal, and Jus-Ed, audio-visual sets, unique installations, and educational panels. This year's theme is "organic" — artists will be displaying works inspired by the five elements. The Forward Festival Opening Party and A/V Showcase kicking off the 5-day affair tonight will feature Aligning Minds Live, Capsaicin Live, Machines on Vacation Live and Nicolas Laget Live at 1351 H Street NE. The festival runs until April 29th with artists and events at various venues.

UPstage presents LINER NOTES: "Elevated Art for the Hip Hop Generation." Liner Notes brings to life the old booklets we used to find in CD cases in this theatrical journey from jazz to hip-hop. Each performance features a tailored cocktail menu. The Dunes. 8 p.m. $20. Liner Notes runs until April 28.

From a restaurant table, playwright Dan LeFranc, winner of the 2010 New York Times Outstanding Playwright Award, brings to life the story of a family over the course of five generations in The Big Meal. Studio Theatre. 8:30 p.m. The play runs until May 20.
