Triple shooting in Brightwood: 13-year-old dies, 2 wounded

UPDATE 9:06 p.m., Saturday: D.C. Police have identified the girl who died in the triple shooting as Angel Morse, 13, of Northwest Washington.

Police also identified the suspected gunman and carjacker as 39-year-old Robert Carter of Northwest. He is being held in Prince George's County as a fugitive from justice.

From the police statement: "At approximately 5:50 pm [Friday], an off duty United States Park Police officer, after hearing the lookout broadcast on WTOP Radio, spotted the vehicle the suspect was driving and was able to provide the direction of travel to on duty officers. Sixth District officers responded and attempted to stop the fleeing vehicle on Kenilworth Avenue. The suspect refused to stop and continued fleeing into Maryland where he lost control of the vehicle and collided with a building near the intersection of Kenilworth Avenue and Eastern Ave."

 

UPDATE 5:57 p.m.: D.C. police Chief Cathy Lanier confirms the suspected gunman was taken into custody near Kenilworth Avenue and Polk Street in Northeast Washington.

UPDATE 5:40 p.m.:
One person was killed in the triple shooting in the 500 block of Madison Street NW. Police did not specify which victim died.

UPDATE 5:24 p.m.: Police say the shooting in Brightwood was perpetrated by the same gunman who carjacked a MetroAccess sedan in the 500 block of Shepherd Street NW just before 4 p.m.

Police say the MetroAccess sedan is a white 2005 MetroAccess Grand Marquis, with D.C. tags C71165, and MetroAccess number 3910 on the side.

Police say it was last seen in the 4900 block of New Hampshire Ave.

Investigators say the gunman initially carjacked a different vehicle near the scene of the shooting in Brightwood, and then ditched it in favor of the Mercury.

The kidnapped passenger has been released unharmed, police said.

UPDATE 4:34 p.m.:
D.C. police say the victims appear to include a boy, a girl and a woman.

D.C. police are investigating a triple shooting in Northwest Washington that wounded two children and an adult.

Police and medics were called to the 500 block of Madison Street NW about 3:40 p.m. for the report of a shooting.

A D.C. Fire and EMS spokesperson said at least two of the patents were transported in critical condition to a hospital. The status of the third person was not immediately available.
