A man walking along the Outer Loop of the Capital Beltway was struck by a tractor trailer Monday night, Maryland State Police said.

The man was taken to a hospital; his condition was not immediately available.

The crash happened shortly before 9 p.m., near Route 1 in College Park.

Maryland State Police said it was unclear why the man was walking on the interstate.
