A spokesperson for Vincent Gray says the mayor-elect had no idea there was a police funeral today because of a staff oversight.

Doxie McCoy tells ABC 7's Ben Eisler that Gray would have been at the funeral had he known about it. She added that Gray has already reached out to the family of 32-year-old Paul Dittamo, who died early Saturday in a crash while on duty.

WeLoveDC reported that Gray was having lunch with D.C. Council Chairman-elect Kwame Brown at Fourth Estate.

Fraternal Order of Police spokesman Kris Baumann was troubled by lack of D.C. officials at the funeral, especially after Mayor Adrian Fenty arrived late.

"Fenty's behavior is not a surprise,' Baumann wrote in an e-mail to TBD. "Fenty has made it clear that he has no respect for police officers and their sacrifices.

"The fact that the Council did not show is disheartening. Today the elected officials of the District made it clear they have little or no regard for those that keep the city safe and risk their lives everyday.

"There were more police officers and officials from Maryland and Virginia than District officials or politicians. Unfortunately, the message sent today was only the police care about the police."
