UPDATE 7:47 a.m.: The victim is an adult male, DC Fire and EMS reports.
The fire reportedly occurred on the third floor. Total damages are estimated at about $5,000.
UPDATE 6:18 a.m.: Flames broke out at the Green Valley Apartments, a senior citizens home, ABC7 News has learned.
An elderly person is being treated for smoke inhalation.

DC Fire and EMS say firefighters rescued one person from a fire at an apartment building in Northeast.
Flames broke out around 4:40 a.m. Tuesday at the five-story building in the 2400 block of Franklin Street.
One person is being treated for smoke inhalation at a local hospital.
No word on the cause of the fire. The investigation is ongoing.
