Grandmother, grandchild struck by vehicle in Rockville

UPDATE 9:36 p.m.: A grandmother and her grandchild were seriously hurt Monday night when they were struck by a car while cross Veirs Mill Road in Rockville, a Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesperson said.

The vehicle stayed on the scene.

The grandmother was taken to a trauma center with serious but non-life threatening injuries, Assistant Chief Scott Graham said. The grandchild was taken to Children's Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The exact circumstances of the collision were not immediately available.

ORIGINAL STORY: Two pedestrians were struck by a vehicle Monday night in Rockville. One of the victims is believed to be a child, police said. The injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The collision happened just after 7 p.m. near the intersection of Veirs Mill Road and Atlantic Avenue.

Few details were immediately available, including wether the striking vehicle remained on the scene.
