Police have arrested one of two suspects responsible for an attempted armed robbery at a Giant Food Store in Suitland.
Police say 24-year-old Brandon Newman, of Greenbelt, has been charged with armed robbery, but a second suspect is still on the loose. He is described as a black male, between 25 and 29 years-old, 5'8" tall, weighing approximately 145 pounds. He was last seen wearing a red baseball hat, reddish wig, white and black scarf mask, black jacket, purple "Giant" polo shirt, black pants, black shoes, and white latex gloves.
Just before 5 a.m. on Monday, police say the suspects went into the store, located at 5500 Silver Hill Road, and forced the victims into a saferoom at gun point. The suspects ordered the safe open, then tried to flee the store. Responding officers met the suspects as they were leaving. Newman was taken into custody, but the other suspect got away. None of the victims were harmed during the robbery and all of the stolen money was recovered.
