Clarendon Culture spied more permits up in the windows of 3100 Clarendon Boulevard today, although exactly what Mad Rose Tavern is going bring to Clarendon's bar scene remains elusive.

So far, Arlington County has only granted a permit for internal demolition covering 4,000 square feet on the first floor the building, which sits at the highly visible corner of Clarendon and Washington Boulevards. The county will need to grant a separate permit before more building work can be done, according to the permit information.

The restaurant applied for a liquor license to serve wine, beer and liquor in an establishment with more than 150 seats on July 27.

The site, which is home to Pacers and SoBe Bar and Bistro, has been underused recently with the closure of Lady Hamilton bridal shop and the empty space in the prospective Mad Rose Tavern location. One fun fact: Northern Virginia Magazine notes that until recently, the Defense Intelligence Agency had a bunch of offices in the building.
