Crime report: What not to do when you're carrying $50,000 worth of cocaine
What did a suspect allegedly carrying around $50,000 worth of cocaine in Takoma Park first do to capture the interest of police? It all started with some fairly mundane public drinking.
According to police, Corey Antonio Moore, 35, had an open bottle of alcohol in his hand while walking down the 100 block of Sherman Avenue around 5 p.m. on Sept. 25. A police officer noticed this and chased after him. Police then say Moore threw the bottle at the officer — not the smartest move in any circumstance, but especially stupid considering what police allege happened next.
According to police records, Moore was still running down the street when he tossed a bag into a Dumpster. When police returned to the Dumpster, they discovered 1.2 pounds of cocaine inside, worth about $50,000.
After obtaining a search warrant for Moore's house (a D.C. resident who also resides in Takoma Park), police found nearly a gallon of liquid PCP (worth about $77,000) and two guns.
The case may be Takoma Park's biggest drug seizure ever, according to a statement from Police Chief Ronald A. Ricucci.
Moore has been charged with several counts of possession plus possession with intent to distribute, but there seem to be no counts related to the bottle-throwing incident.
