Hours (and hours and hours) of fun for the whole family: Arlingtonopoly. (Photo: TBD Staff)

Product: Arlingtonopoly, an Arlington business-themed board game that works like Monopoly

Tagline: "Come play with us."

Price: $24.99 plus tax

Available at: The combination branch library and store that sells Arlington gear in the county's main office at 2100 Clarendon Boulevard.

Why you might want it: You just got done paying your property tax bill upstairs in the treasurer's office, and you just don't feel like you've given Arlington County enough of your money. Or you're one of those weirdos that actually likes to play an entire game of Monopoly.

How it works: The properties around the board are Arlington businesses, rather than streets or other attractions, and instead of houses, players buy customers. (What's the equivalent of a hotel — a tour bus?) Instead of being in jail, you're in court, and the board sends you there for "speeding." (Apparently Patch Adams knows a thing or two about this.)

Funny fact: the particular businesses on the board donated the money for their space proportionate to the value of the corresponding Monopoly property, which explains why Virginia Commerce Bank and the American Realty Group own Boardwalk and Park , respectively. (The Arlington YMCA is holding down the fort over on Baltic Ave., but Artisphere apparently shelled out the big bucks for Marvin Gardens.) So yes, you're hearing this right: space on the board in Arlintonopoly went to the highest bidders.

The bottom line: Proceeds from the sale of the games go to certain teen support programs in the county. Arlingtonopoly just came out three weeks ago, and has generated a lot of interest, according to Toni Bissessar, who was working in the store today. "People are very interested in it," she says. "It's just like Monopoly ... but in Arlington."
