The economy may be bad, but not bad enough for Silver Spring’s Knock On Wood tap studio to shutter its doors for good.

The studio at 8700 Georgia Ave. is hosted by nonprofit Tappers with Attitude, Inc. The group launched major fundraising efforts this summer after facing the possibility of closing one of the region’s only tap-exclusive studios.

The campaign was successful enough to keep classes going, but donations didn’t quite reach the studio’s goal of $50,000.

A letter written by Tappers With Attitude's board of directors states:

Words cannot express how happy we are to make this decision. We are grateful to the many kind individuals who stayed by us during this uncertain summer. We very much appreciate the bountiful outpourings of love, ideas, fundraisers and donations. Though we did not raise the entire amount we hoped for, we received enough to justify the decision to remain open.

The fall season begins today and ends Dec. 11.
