Residents who had been anxiously awaiting Thursday's planned "launch party" for the long-debated redevelopment of the Wisconsin Avenue Giant will have to wait a bit longer. Organizers decided today to reschedule the event after realizing that it was smack dab in the middle of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.
No word yet on when the event will now take place, but it's important to note that when it does, it still won't be a real groundbreaking. Rather, Giant plans to "introduce" its plans to the community, more or less signaling the company's commitment to proceeding with the modernization project. The mixed-use Cathedral Commons development has been a point of contention in Ward 3 literally for years now, and a lawsuit filed against the developers by the Wisconsin Newark Neighbors Coalition is still pending.
While you wait for the new event date and time, you can check out Giant's plans here.
