Arlington Metro stations target of alleged terror plot
A man accused of plotting to bomb the D.C. Metrorail system was targeting several stations in Arlington, according to an indictment released by the Department of Justice Wednesday afternoon.
Prosecutors say Farooque Ahmed, 34, of Ashburn, conducted surveillance of and potentially planned to set off explosives in the Courthouse, Pentagon City and Arlington Cemetery stations.
Farooque allegedly turned over thumb drives of images and video of the Metro stations to an agent he believed to be affiliated with Al-Qaeda. He also made suggestions to this individual as to "where explosives should be placed on trains in Arlington Cemetery, Courthouse and Pentagon City stations in order to kill the most people in simultaneous attacks planned for 2011," according to the indictment.
