Some of the newly renovated affordable apartments in Buckingham Village will be available for lease as soon as December, according to Arlington County's housing office. The renovation began last year after the county purchased the apartment complex in early 2009.

All 140 apartments in the complex will remain affordable under the county's plans. The majority of units will be affordable for people making between $30,000 and $60,000 per year, depending on the size of family. A few of the apartments will also be available for very low income families through the county's Permanent Supportive Housing Program.

Many of the apartments will go to former residents of the complex, as the goal of the renovation was to maintain market rate affordable housing for those already living in the apartments. "The development team worked to ensure that current residents of the apartments would not be forced to move," according to the county's housing blog.

People interested in the apartments can contact the Housing division at 703.228.3765 or housingdivision@arlingtonva.us.
