On the ground in D.C., Maryland and Virginia

Correction:

The original version of this post misstated the timing of the Chick-fil-A grand opening contest. If more than 100 people are in line by Wednesday, Nov. 17, the raffle will be conducted Wednesday morning.

Update, 12:40 p.m.: Chick-fil-A staff are cutting off the free giveaway at 1 p.m., although they've been having to run in and grab 10 sandwiches at a time for most of the past hour. Are they going to run out before the end? They hope not, one employee says, but if they do, they'd give away something else instead.

Today or tomorrow could be your lucky day in Crystal City, as representatives from the soon-to-open Chick-fil-A there will be handing out free lunch near its Crystal Drive location. The store will hold a grand opening Thursday, Nov. 18.

The chain is planning to give out 10,000 sandwiches during lunch hour today and tomorrow to promote the opening of its store at 2200 Crystal Drive. It's just a guess, but we're thinking a gang of costumed "cows" may be the ones tasked with handing out the sandwiches.

Chick-fil-A will also be conducting its traditional contest to mark the opening of the store, meaning the first 100 customers in line when it opens will receive a one-year supply of Chick-fil-A (worth $260).

If there are more than 100 people in line by 6 a.m. on Wednesday Thursday, Chick-fil-A will conduct a raffle for the 100 one-year supply awards, according to ARLNow.

But if you're more interested in lunch today than getting up at the crack of dawn to wait for the motherload of Chick-fil-A, stroll down Crystal Drive this afternoon. The new location is north of Jaleo and Kora on Crystal Drive.
