Snapshots of the wild, weird, and wonderful things you can buy in the D.C. area.

Product: Pickle Dog

Available at: ChiDogO's, 1934 14th St. NW

Cost: $2.59

Why you might want it: You don't particularly like the taste of most veggie dogs. You loooooooove pickles.

How it works: ChiDogO's, the brand new Chicago-style hot dog counter from Bob Hisaoka, describes its pickle dog as a fried pickle spear that "fills the bun," plus all the toppings. Those toppings include mustard, relish, chopped onions, tomatoes, peppers, and, yes, another, non-fried pickle spear. This dog is certifiably pickle-plus.

The bottom line: Not for pickle skeptics! All you're gonna taste is pickle (the frying doesn't really seem to change anything about the taste, that I could tell). But if that sounds like it's right up your alley, a quick snack at 14th & U for under $3 is a decent deal.

The Fried Pickle Chips at DC-3 are quite tasty. I don't know if I'd call them "fricklicious," but it's a decent fried pickle. Now, what DC really needs is some fried sauerkraut balls: batter, kraut, icecream scooper, plop in hot oil. Definitely fricklicious.
