In case you haven't yet heard, Uptown Deli opened in Bethesda on Saturday, adding to the many new eateries that have been cropping up in Bethesda in recent months.

"[Bethesda] seemed like it needed a Jewish deli. There's nothing south of Silver Spring," deli owner Howard Wasserman says. "There's a lot of New Yorkers, a lot of Jewish people, and a lot of non-Jewish people" who enjoy deli food, he added.

EatMore DrinkMore interviewed Wasserman back in September, providing all sorts of details on the deli's rye bread and corned beef. Wasserman tells TBD that he also sells the traditional deli desserts: cheesecakes, rainbow cakes, and black and white cookies, brought in from bakeries in New York and elsewhere. But he's secretive about exactly where. There's an aura of mystery around pastries at the Uptown.

Oh, and that empty storefront next door to 7905 Norfolk Ave.? Anil Sareen says his business, Capital Beer & Wine, will hopefully open up there by Christmas. Sareen also owns Bethesda restaurant Angeethi Indian Cuisine.
