Not everyone has Veterans Day off work, but the D.C. government will close or suspend a number of services in observance of the holiday. Here's what you need to know:

Trash & Recycling: There will be no trash and recycling collections in the District on Thursday. The usual holiday "slide" rule will be in effect, so Thursday’s collections will be made Friday, and Friday’s collections will be made Saturday.

Parking Enforcement: There will be no tickets given out for parking meter violations, residential parking restrictions, or rush hour lane violations. Also, no abandoned vehicles will be towed.

Ft. Totten: The Ft. Totten Transfer Station will be closed Thursday. It will reopen Friday at 1 p.m. for residents to bring bulk trash.

Leaf Collections: Regularly scheduled leaf collection will take place on Thursday, but only in "Area A" neighborhoods as designated in the leaf collection brochure previously mailed to residents.

Libraries: D.C. Public Libraries will all be closed Thursday.

Recreation centers & pools: If you're hoping to take the kids somewhere for the day, keep in mind that only one rec center will be open in each ward on Thursday, from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Those centers are: Banneker in Ward 1,
Kennedy in Ward 2, Chevy Chase in Ward 3, Emery in Ward 4, Trinidad in Ward 5, Sherwood in Ward 6, Deanwood in Ward 7, and Douglass in Ward 8.

Additionally, only two indoor pools, at Wilson and at Deanwood, will be open on Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
