D.C. Council works to close budget gap, as told in tweets

UPDATE, 2:18 p.m. The tweets of the hearing seem to be over for the day. We've recapped the highlights of the budget hearing in tweets, which you can review after the jump.

ORIGINAL POST: This morning D.C. Council Chair and Mayor-elect Vince Gray released the details of his revised proposal aimed at closing the city's $188 million budget gap.

According to DCist's proposal breakdown, the plan includes continued budget cuts for city social services and furloughs for city employees, but does not include a tax increase.

The council is set to vote on the plan today and the Wilson Building is abuzz with community interests and social service advocates fighting to save funding for their programs. Follow the ongoing drama through the tweets of those at the scene (after the jump).
