Ethan Allen road repairs begin again
Those Takoma Park street closures for road repairs on Ethan Allen Avenue are back in effect today.
The work was canceled last week because of the snow and cold weather, but crews are back out on the pothole-ridden road until about 3 p.m. One lane of Ethan Allen Avenue will be shut down at a time, so take Sycamore and Elm avenues when eastbound Ethan Allen Avenue is closed, and take Lincoln and Boyd avenues when westbound Ethan Allen Avenue is closed.
The City of Takoma Park will spend $30,000 to $50,000 on fixing the worst parts of the road, but they are trying to get the State of Maryland to pay for them (for years the Maryland State Highway Administration thought it had ownership of the road, but it turns out it belongs to the city). And there could be more road closures in the future — some local state legislators have written to SHA [PDF], asking for the state to do one, final complete repair of Ethan Allen Avenue before agreeing on shared responsibility over maintenance of the road.
