To the lovers of sports bars residing in Silver Spring: be patient, for you'll get your new watering hole soon enough.

Babe's Sports Bar & Grill owner Ron Bouchard says his new joint at 1115 East-West Highway should be opening the weekend of Dec. 18, since the bar's final inspections have been scheduled for next week.

Bouchard originally wanted to open during Thanksgiving weekend, but he couldn't get the restaurant licenses in time for that.

The sports bar, formerly a Tenleytown institution until it was sold to make way for condos, will breathe some life into the space vacated by the club Gallery.

The bar will have televisions throughout, 10 pool tables, two outdoor patios with bars, and a menu chock full of items such as beef franks.

I disagree with Jag. There's currently no good combination of food, location and sports viewability... Love Quarry House to death, but they're not open during the day and don't really have a TV. The other places are fine, but the food's not much to speak of. I do agree that I wish this place well and will be a strong early supporter and patron (assuming they get access to out of town football games). Are there going to be any dart boards?

I haven't heard any mention of dart boards. I should also mention that the owners expect to attract a lot of the regulars who frequented the former Babe's (not sure how regular they will be at this new Silver Spring location).

I really hope the owner understands that he's going to have to offer a substantially better happy hour and weekend sporting event specials to draw customers from DTSS. This place is way out there, relative to all the current bar action in DTSS (McGinty's, Piratz, Quarry House, Fire Station 1, etc.). Hopefully the rent is substantially cheaper and the specials will be priced accordingly. I'd hate to see this place fail.
