Attention lovers of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern food — you will soon have your Cava Mezze Grill.
The team behind the sit-down restaurants in Capitol Hill and Rockville will open their first fast-casual grill tomorrow at 4832 Bethesda. Ave. in Bethesda, and CEO Brett Schulman tells us that they are looking to open two more grills within the next few months in D.C. Possible locations include Dupont Circle and Penn Quarter.
But enough of the D.C. restaurants. What should you expect tomorrow in Bethesda?
For one, you'll be able to get Cava's food more quickly and cheaply than you can get in Rockville or Capitol Hill. The grill's menu staples are pitas, bowls, and salads that average about $7, and the ordering-style will be much like Chipotle's.
"It's basically the Cava feel as far as ambiance and food goes but packaged a little differently," says executive chef Dimitri Moshovitis.
Schulman says that Bethesda was an ideal location because it is in between the other two restaurants. The neighborhood also has the "right mix of office and residential" that Schulman says will make his grill a viable option for both workday lunches or causal dinners.
"We thought this was another way to offer some of Cava's food," says Schulman.
The grill is opening in the Bethesda Row storefront formerly occupied by Marvelous Market on the same block that saw Chicken Out close down in December. Perhaps this new grill will satisfy the demand for inexpensive, work week meals and non-chain restaurants.
