In case you're not sure how soon you should get out there to start shoveling, Arlington, we checked with the county. The official end time for last night's "snow event," for the purposes of the county's new sidewalk-clearing requirement, was 12:52 a.m. this morning.

Because the snowfall recorded at Reagan National Airport was less than six inches, the 24-hour rule is in effect, meaning Arlington property owners and businesses are expected to clear their sidewalks before about 1 a.m. tonight under the county's newly passed snow removal ordinance.

Code enforcement will review complaints submitted from 9 a.m. tomorrow and beyond, according to Arlington County Department of Environmental Services spokesperson Mylissa Kennedy.

We already saw that Arlingtonians didn't hesitate to report their neighbors' sidewalk neglect during December's pitiful 2-inch snowfall, so we're sure those same folks will be out in force after last night's storm.

County code enforcement is planning to offer warnings before issuing any fines or enforcement actions, county manager Barbara Donnellan has said.
