Those who are tired of the stale, name-your-restaurant-after-your-street-address trend, now's your time to shine.
Artisphere, the recently-opened arts center in Rosslyn will conduct a city-wide contest to choose a name for the bar and restaurant that will anchor the site, and the field of choices is wide open, confirms a spokesperson for the venue.
It might be hard to think of a fitting moniker for a Latin-inspired restaurant in the middle of a multimedia arts venue, but the reward for the winner may make it worth it. The person submitting the winning name will be treated to a private dinner for eight people catered by the new restaurant in the center's terrace gallery, as well as tickets and VIP service to an event at Artisphere that same night.
Starting next week, Artisphere will be taking proposed name suggestions from the public through an online submission site the Express's website. You'll have until Feb. 18 to submit your proposed names, and then Artisphere officials and the restaurant's owners, Guajillo and Casa Oaxaca owners Karen Barroso and Rolando Juárez, will narrow it down to three choices.
The voting then goes back to the public, with voters being able to pick the winner out of the top three. The two runners-up will also be treated to a show at Artisphere and dinner at the restaurant once it opens.
"We're pretty excited," says Artisphere spokesperson Annalisa Meyer, who points out that Arlington County residents actually voted to choose the name Artisphere. "This continues our commitment to really invovle the community."
The name will be unveiled in March, and the venue is planning a tentative launch party for the new restaurant for April 1.
So what do you think? What's a fitting name for the restaurant? Submit suggestions in the comments, or tweet your ideas with the #Artisphere hash tag on Twitter.
