Today Metro-Venture shares a fun little story about a driver/pedestrian kerfuffle near 14th and P Streets NW last night. Apparently a jogger wearing dark clothes and running "very fast" was heading through a crosswalk with the right of way when a car nearly hit him. This jogger promptly went bananas:

And can I tell you that he FLIPPED OUT on that driver. First he stopped dead in the middle of the crosswalk, then he hunched over like he was going to go all Incredible Hulk on the hood of the car. Then he unleashed a litany of swear words, and capped off the whole experience with the requisite flip of the middle finger. Classy!

Though this lunatic jogger is left nameless, Metro-Venture happened to recognize him and describes him as "a semi-famous local online writer type person." Hmmm. Sounds awfully out of character for Mike Allen, doesn't it? The anger doesn't match the wonky, cool-headed prose of Ezra Klein, either. What about Andrew Sullivan -- he writes with passion, but does he carry it with him through the crosswalk?

Alas, the local journo revealed himself in Metro-Venture's comments section. It was none other than TBD editor Erik Wemple, who offered a spirited defense of his actions last night. Reached for comment just a few feet away this afternoon, Wemple said he doesn't actually recall flipping the driver the bird, but he wouldn't rule it out, either. "I'd trust [the blogger's] recollection over my own," he said.

So if you're interested in pedestrian safety issues -- or if you're just curious what it's like over here in the TBD offices -- we encourage you to read Metro-Venture's post. And be sure to tune in to TBD TV every Wednesday at 4:30 p.m., where Wemple brings the same fire to local media issues in his famous Fuego/Frio segments.
