Yesterday morning, an elderly Silver Spring resident was hit by a car as he was crossing Bel Pre Road in Aspen Hill. Mohammad Fartash, 85, died at Suburban Hospital last night.
According to Montgomery County police, Fartash was walking within the crosswalk when he was struck by an Acura driven by Vincent George Dixon, 52, of Silver Spring. Dixon had been sitting at a red light on northbound Connecticut Avenue before trying to make a left turn onto westbound Bel Pre. That's when he hit Fartash. Dixon stayed on the scene.
A county police spokesman just told us that they haven't yet determined whether Fartash had the walk signal at the time of the crash. No charges are pending against Dixon right now, though an investigation is ongoing.
