I'm not much of a winter cyclist. In fact, the very idea of riding a bike on a day like this sends a shiver down my spine and causes my lower regions to contract. So, no, I won't be participating in CaBi's Winter Weather Warrior contest, even though I'm a CaBi member and happen to think it's a great idea.

D.C.'s bikesharing system will be doling out prizes to the loony members who ride the most between Jan. 1 and Feb. 28. For the rider who takes the most trips, the grand prize is fairly considerable: He or she gets a free 3-year extension (that's a $225 value right there), two free CaBi memberships for friends, a $100 gift certificate to Hudson Trail Outfitters, and a $25 gift card to Starbucks, presumably to warm oneself up over hot coffee.

There are also prizes for the members who log the most miles and rack up the most saddle time.

Oh, and here's a nice wrinkle: Whenever there's "bad weather" -- a day with a high temperature below freezing, any frozen precipitation, or rain when it's colder than 50 degrees out -- and the rides count for double. And sorry, trips of less than five minutes don't count.

Lunatics, saddle up.
