H Street Shuttle's run comes to an end

- H Street NE under construction. (TBD)
Once the ball drops, the H Street Shuttle will run no more. The Hill is Home has the details.
The shuttle launched in August 2009 as a way to draw diners and shoppers to the corridor as it underwent a massive streetstcape redesign. Never considered anything more than temporary, the shuttle's funding situation was always a bit precarious, with premature obituaries popping up from time to time.
Though H Street businesses had hoped the shuttle would run until street construction wrapped in late winter/early spring -- as did D.C. Councilmember Tommy Wells' office -- the money has simply run out. DDOT had to dig deep just to find enough dollars to keep the shuttle on the road through Dec. 31.
A couple of weeks ago DDOT launched the X9 Metrobus, an express route running along H Street that the agency hopes will mitigate the loss of the shuttle.
