Shortly after midnight this morning 26-year-old Melbourne Clyde Leach Jr. was hit by a car and killed as he was crossing King Street near the Park Center Drive intersection in Alexandria, according to police. The driver took off. A witness told police the car was a dark four-door sedan resembling a Lincoln Town Car. Head over to the Latest blog for more details.

About five hours later, a cyclist in Montgomery County was hit by a car that also fled the scene. The 49-year-old victim was struck on Colesville Road near University Boulevard, though he wasn't seriously hurt and refused treatment.
