In this week's Metro history, I talked about how motorcyclists first won usage of the HOV highway lanes and emphasized the fact that the motorcycle is typically a vehicle for one. True enough, but I should add that this isn't always the case. Sometimes people double up on their bikes — it's a common enough sight on the road.

And then sometimes people do this. A British man has built what is apparently the world's longest motorcycle. It's 22 meters long, according to this video from DirectBikes posted two days ago, allegedly a new world record. That's just over 72 feet long, folks! It's a bit of a stunt, from what I can tell, and the outlandish cycle was put together with help from the British company scooter.co.uk. Even so, I like the music from the xx that kicks off the video and think it's a fun experiment.

And judging by the number of seats on what these Brits would call a scooter, I'd say it more than meets the requirements for riding in the HOV lane regardless of what the law ever said.
